Here at SunTech we get this question a lot: How do I know when it is time to replace an old blood pressure cuff?

There are a couple of foolproof ways to tell if your BP cuffs are getting worn out.

1. Does the cuff stay closed without taping it?

At some point the hook and loop closure of the cuff will get so much hair, dirt, and grime built up in it that it will no longer stay closed. Taping your cuffs shut is never recommended because the pressure of the tape holding the cuff shut can affect the accuracy of your measurements.

2. Is the monitor giving you an "Air Leak" error?

One possible cause of an "Air Leak" message is a worn out cuff. If the hose looks ok and is properly connected to the cuff and the monitor, it is probably time to replace the cuff.
