Improper placement of the SunTech Medical Orbit K blood pressure cuff

Transcript

Mistakes to avoid when applying the Orbit K blood pressure cuff for use with the Tango+ cardiac stress blood pressure monitor. This cuff is designed to withstand the rigors of exercise motion and includes an optional microphone for detecting auscultatory blood pressure readings with an automated blood pressure monitor

  • The cuff can be misplaced in a variety of ways, but the following improper placements occur most commonly.
  • The first occurs when the microphone is placed on top of the bicep
  • The cuff should be moved more medially on the arm to where the brachial artery runs between the bicep and triceps.
  • Once in place, the cuff can be wrapped around the bicep.
  • The second improper placement occurs when the microphone has been placed over the brachial artery at the antecubital or elbow crease where stethoscope is typically placed during the manual blood pressure readings.
  • Move the cuff further up the arm with the microphone between the bicep and triceps.
Once in place, the cuff can be wrapped around the bicep.
