NBA® Pre-Draft Camp Coach Selects SunTech Tango+ for Automated Blood Pressure Measurement
Morrisville, NC, USA - June 17, 2008
SunTech Medical is pleased to disclose that its Tango+ automated blood pressure monitor was recently utilized for the physical evaluation of NBA draftees at the 2008 Pre-Draft Camp held in Orlando, Florida.
Joe Rogowski, an exercise physiologist for the Orlando Magic®, selected the SunTech Tango+ when he was charged with the responsibility of performing 79 stress test electrocardiograms (ECGs) during the physical evaluation phase of the draft.
Mr. Rogowski commented, "We wanted a seamless process for these exercise stress tests and the SunTech Tango+ really helped us get the blood pressure readings in a reliable and efficient way."
During exercise stress testing, an athlete is fitted with ECG electrodes which feed cardiac information into a testing system as the subject runs on a treadmill. Blood pressure measurement is an essential part of the evaluation. The SunTech Tango+ automated monitor is able to provide accurate and reliable blood pressure readings even in this challenging environment.
SunTech Medical representatives Stephanie Monk, Product Manager, and Rod Thomson, Sales Manager for the SunTech Tango+, represented the company and provided training to the staff performing the evaluations.
The SunTech Tango+ uses proprietary motion-tolerant technology to provide reliable, clinical grade automated blood pressure measurements in the presence of noise and patient motion. In addition to blood pressure, the Tango+ provides heart rate and pulse oximetry measurements.

SunTech Medical Launches Hemodialysis OEM NIBP Technology
Morrisville, NC, USA - April 21, 2008
SunTech Medical launches their Advantage™ HDM (Hemodialysis Monitoring) OEM Non-invasive Blood Pressure (OEM NIBP) technology designed specifically for monitoring blood pressure during hemodialysis. This application-specific technology recently achieved an A rating for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurement according to the British Hypertension Society (BHS) protocol.
SunTech Medical recognized the need to address concerns over the accuracy of automated blood pressure measurements on hemodialysis patients. In response, they investigated an oscillometric blood pressure technology for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients during hemodialysis. The results provide a break-through in clinical-grade accuracy for non-invasive automated blood pressure measurement on ESRD patients.
Although recommended, current validation protocols and guidelines do not require blood pressure monitors to be validated on specific patient populations. Consequently, most are validated on readily available healthy volunteers. In this regard, special efforts were made by focusing not only on ESRD patients, but in the environment for which the technology was intended by performing the evaluation during dialysis treatment. This makes SunTech Medical the only current provider of OEM NIBP technology validated for use during hemodialysis treatment.
SunTech Medical wishes to thank the patients and staff at Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Regional Hospital Nephrology Center (Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada). The study was approved by both Health Canada and the Hospital's ethics review board. All subjects were adult volunteers with ESRD currently receiving hemodialysis treatment.

SunTech Medical's blood pressure technology (OEM NIBP) provides Xtreme Everest with vital blood pressure data
Morrisville, NC, USA - January 21, 2008
The Caudwell Xtreme Everest Team has returned from their expedition to the peak of Mount Everest and has begun reviewing data collected at extreme altitudes in hopes to improve treatment for intensive care patients
SunTech Medical, in co-operation with Cortex Biophysik GmbH, provided the Caudwell Xtreme Everest team with non-invasive blood pressure (OEM NIBP) technology for measuring blood pressure during extreme exercise at a series of high-altitude laboratories. The team hoped to replicate the low oxygen levels that intensive care patients encounter with the similarly low oxygen levels on Mount Everest. They believe their findings may help improve patient care for a number of life-threatening conditions.
The Xtreme Everest team performed tests during exercise that included assessment with the MetaLyzer® cardiopulmonary exercise system from Cortex. SunTech Medical provides OEM non-invasive blood pressure technology (OEM NIBP) for the MetaLyzer system to accurately and reliably obtain blood pressure measurements under the demanding conditions of stress and exercise.
"We used the SunTech non-invasive blood pressure (OEM NIBP) system on the Caudwell Xtreme Everest Expedition. The system performed very well in extremely harsh environmental conditions in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius and at altitudes of up to 6400 metres. We successfully carried out 1787 exercise tests with NIBP monitoring without damaging any of the systems," says Denny Levett , Deputy Research Leader Caudwell Xtreme Everest.
Many of these tests had never before been done at these altitudes and should provide the team with more information about oxygen supply to the brain under conditions of low blood oxygen levels. The results are expected to help physicians understand how patients react to low oxygen levels and lead to improved care for the critically ill. SunTech Medical certainly supports this goal and is proud that Cortex Biophysik and the Caudwell Xtreme Everest Team chose SunTech Medical as their blood pressure solution in pursuit of that goal.
Caudwell Xtreme Everest Project is coordinated by the UCL Center for Altitude, Space and Extreme environment medicine (CASE). For more information, please visit www.xtreme-everest.co.uk.

SunTech Medical's Oscar 2 Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor Receives A/A Rating by British Hypertension Society Protocol
April 9, 2007 - Eynsham, Oxford, England
SunTech Medical's Oscar 2 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) has received an A/A rating based upon the British Hypertension Society (BHS) protocol as reported in the April 2007 issue of Blood Pressure Monitoring (Goodwin et al., 2007)
The independent evaluation was conducted in the United Kingdom by researchers at James Cook University Hospital. Results showed the Oscar 2 received an A grade for both systolic and diastolic pressures.
Considered the gold standard by many experts worldwide (Pickering et al., 2006), ambulatory blood pressure monitoring provides a comprehensive assessment of a patient's blood pressure profile. ABPM provides valuable information on BP variability, overnight dipping and morning surge that in-clinic and home BP monitoring cannot provide.
The SunTech Oscar 2 is clinically validated to all three internationally recognized standards: British Hypertension Society (BHS) (A/A), European Society of Hypertension (ESH) International Protocol, and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) SP10. The sleek, lightweight design of the Oscar 2 combined with the comfort of SunTech's patented Orbit blood pressure cuff dramatically increase patient testing compliance. The included AccuWin Pro V3 software allows flexible programming of the ABPM unit, rapid analysis of the data, and a customizable printed report. The automated interpretive summary provides concise and helpful information on BP averages, overnight dip percentage, and instances of White-coat syndrome.

Non-invasive BP Monitor Provides Beat-to-Beat Readings
December 18, 2006 - Research Triangle Park, NC, USA
A breakthrough in physiological monitoring is about to take center stage as Empirical Technologies prepares "BPGuardian" for commercial deployment. Empirical's BPGuardian makes it possible to monitor blood pressure beat-by-beat and non-invasively without discomfort, using a portable device worn on the wrist. Information from the sensor is then sent via a Bluetooth connection to a nearby computer or handheld device, such as a PDA.
Initial prototype development, testing and evaluation for the device was made possible by Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) grants provided in 2005 and 2006 through the Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization (OTTC) at California State University, San Bernardino. Encouraged by positive early test results, SunTech Medical acquired an equity position in Empirical Technologies Corporation this past March. The two firms are now collaborating to introduce a clinical blood pressure monitor that measures, with every heart beat, aortic pressure at the wrist.
Interest continues to grow in the initial product, BPGuardian, which was recently used in a dialysis clinic to monitor blood pressure beat-to-beat. The Naval Health Research Center in San Diego is interested in using BPGuardian as a research tool for stress physiology and its relation to combat stress disorders. Several Department of Defense (DoD) laboratories are evaluating the device, as are several research hospitals. Ongoing studies include work in blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension in adults and children, inexpensive aneurysm detection and other clinical areas.
About the Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization (OTTC):
OTTC is the management office for a grant program known as CCAT, Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology, funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) through Congressman Jerry Lewis's office. The Foundation for California State University, San Bernardino hosts and oversees OTTC. CCAT provides grants intended to be used in two ways: (1) to help companies develop commercial applications for technologies that have been developed in government laboratories; and (2) to help the government find technologies it needs for defense and homeland security needs and help them along so they can enter government procurement channels. OTTC is a two-way conduit that acts as a virtual incubator for advanced technology.
About the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT):
The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) is supported by Congress and funded by the Department of Defense as a public-private collaborative partnership among academia, industry, and government. With Centers located at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and San Diego State University (SDSU), the CCAT program provides funding and business development support services to small entrepreneurs, small businesses, and government/university research scientists that have developed technology for use in the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as the commercial marketplace. Additional program partners include the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Jacobs School of Engineering, von Liebig Center and The Security Network with support from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego.

May 16, 2005 - Research Triangle Park, NC, USA
SunTech Medical, Inc., the world leader in motion-tolerant non-invasive blood pressure monitoring products and technology, announces the release of the next generation Tango® stress blood pressure monitor, the Tango+.
Twenty years of research and development in non-invasive and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has culminated in a product that is today's leader in auscultatory blood pressure monitoring.
"Our goal is for Tango to be the 'standard of care' in stress labs across the country and eventually worldwide," explains Dayn McBee, CEO of SunTech. "Tango+ features upgrades that surpass any auscultatory blood pressure monitor currently on the market."
Such features include a 'Stat Mode' for frequent interval blood pressure measurement in situations requiring close monitoring, a timer to track when the last reading was taken, and a Graph View that allows the clinician to easily track blood pressure trends during a test.
"It was important for SunTech to add features that would benefit the end user as well as the patient," states Tony Francisco, Product Manager for SunTech, "The Tango+ makes BP monitoring easy to do as well as cost effective. It eliminates the need for additional staff to perform manual checks. At the same time, it keeps clinicians informed at all times during a stress test and allows them to focus their attention on the most important element in any stress test, the patient."
"With childhood obesity and hypertension (two leading causes of heart disease), at an all-time high in the US, research and early detection will become increasingly important in stress labs," states Ed Wright, VP of Marketing for SunTech. "Bringing an accurate and reliable means of data collection, as well as a cost effective way of tracking blood pressure are key elements to the success of the Tango+ monitor. We think we'll see an increasing demand for our automated BP capability in the years ahead."
A reliable stream of blood pressure data is crucial in stress testing. Paul Chase of Duke Medical Center states, "The Tango+ monitor has allowed us to efficiently gather dependable blood pressure measurement data for our exercise and pharmacological stress testing and is the only reliable BP monitoring system I have used."
Tango+ begins shipment this month and will soon be available in four additional languages.
