SunTech Medical's Tango+ Cardiac Stress BP MonitorIn a recent study published in the International Journal of Cardiology1, researchers at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan used exercise stress testing to evaluate the effects that aerobic interval training (AIT) would have in aiding respiratory and cardiopulmonary efficiency on patients with heart failure syndrome.  The researchers attempted to prove that AIT would aid in ventilatory efficiency and assist with the distribution of blood flow from the heart, more so than moderate continuous training (MCT).

For most people, hypertension is a condition that should be diagnosed regularly in order to help prevent future illness. But for kidney transplant patients, uncontrolled hypertension can be particularly dangerous—no less for pediatric patients than for adults. In a recently published article in the journal Pediatric Nephrology, Blood pressure profile in renal transplant recipients and its relation to diastolic function: tissue Doppler echocardiographic, Dr. Mitra Basiratnia and the staff at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences describe the dangers this way:

“Arterial hypertension is a common consequence after renal transplantation. It is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular events, graft failure, proteinuria, and death.”

A study led by Dr. William White and Dr. Pooja Luthra at the University of Connecticut Health Center is using the Oscar 2™, 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) to investigate a possible link between vitamin D deficiency and hypertension.

Vitamin D has several purposes but is most commonly known for its role in promoting calcium absorption and maintaining bone density. The hypertension study will help identify if vitamin D deficiency is a cardiovascular risk factor by measuring changes in 24 hour blood pressure using the Oscar 2 ABPM from SunTech Medical.

During the physical evaluation phase of the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, the athletes were fitted with ECG electrodes that fed cardiac information into a stress system while running on a treadmill.
